R-JPEG converter for DJI thermal images
Turn DJI R-JPEG files into FLIR-style radiometric JPEGs that open in FLIR Thermal Studio with the temperatures intact.
What an R-JPEG is
An R-JPEG, also written RJPEG, is a JPEG that carries the raw thermal measurements as well as a picture. DJI thermal drones such as the Zenmuse H30T and H20T and the Matrice 30T, Mavic 3T and Matrice 4T save images this way. The picture you see is a colour rendering. The temperatures are in a block of data that only DJI's own software understands.
Why other thermal software shows a plain picture
FLIR software looks for FLIR's radiometric data block in the file. A DJI R-JPEG has DJI's block instead, so FLIR Thermal Studio opens it as an ordinary JPEG, with no temperature on hover and no measurement tools.
What ThermaBridge does
- Reads the temperature of every pixel from your DJI file, using the measurement settings stored in the image: emissivity, distance, humidity, atmospheric and reflected temperature.
- Writes those temperatures into a FLIR radiometric block, with the settings alongside, so FLIR Thermal Studio reads them as it would an image from a FLIR camera.
- Keeps the GPS position, and embeds the zoom (or wide) photo as the visible picture, aligned to the thermal view.
- Applies the palette, colour distribution and temperature span you choose.
What to know before you rely on it
- Accuracy is that of the DJI camera that took the image, typically within about 2 °C or 2%. Converting does not improve it.
- Use the original files from the drone. Copies that were resized, edited, or sent through apps that strip metadata lose the thermal data.
- Tested on Zenmuse H30T images. See supported drones for the other models.
