Open DJI thermal images in FLIR Thermal Studio
Convert, copy and open your files, and check the temperatures are there.
Before you start
- Use the original images from the drone.
- Have FLIR Thermal Studio installed on a Windows computer.
1. Convert the images
Upload the flight folder to UnlockIR, choose a palette and temperature span, and download the converted files.
2. Copy the files to your analysis computer
Use a method that does not alter files: a USB drive, a network share or a cloud drive's download button. Avoid messaging apps and photo-sharing services, which re-encode images and strip the thermal data.
3. Open one in Thermal Studio
- Open the file. It should show the thermal picture, with the visible picture available alongside.
- Hover over the image. A temperature should appear at the pointer.
- Open the Measurements panel. It lists the image maximum, minimum and average, and the parameters: emissivity, reflected temperature, distance, atmospheric temperature and humidity.
If it opens as a plain picture
That means Thermal Studio cannot find the thermal data. Almost always the file was changed after conversion.
- Compare the file on the analysis computer with the one you downloaded. On Windows, run
certutil -hashfile file.jpg MD5; on a Mac,md5 file.jpg. The two checksums must match. - If they differ, copy the file again with a different method.
- If they match and it still opens as a plain picture, tell us which drone and what version of Thermal Studio, and we will look at it.
Accuracy. Temperatures are as accurate as the DJI camera that measured them. Setting the right emissivity and reflected temperature for the surface matters more than the converter.
